Saturday Morning Coffee

On July 11, 2010, in Saturday Morning Coffee, by Sheryl

I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma a few years ago. On the first Saturday morning after the moving truck arrived, I pulled on a ballcap and rode my bike to the only coffee shop I knew how to find. I read the papers, met the local crowd and began a tradition that would last for the entirety of my four years in that great city. My Saturday mornings consistently involved broad conversations with a group of broads that became my dearest friends.

When I moved back to Oklahoma City a few months ago, I missed those broads- and, as a recovering public opinion strategist-  I missed bouncing political issues around with my private focus group!

The situation was soon remedied and the OKC Saturday morning coffee group has come together. On any given Saturday, an amazing array of women drift through the discussion at a local coffee shop. A non-profit CEO, a financial adviser, a young entrepreneur, a corporate attorney, a public relations executive, an appeals court lawyer and the president of an economic development agency comprise the group so far. They are businesswomen, policymakers and opinion leaders. They are also mothers, wives and social advocates.

What I am finding is that my Saturday morning coffee conversations yield ideas and thoughts that linger long after the lattes are gone. So, as Oklahoma enters this pivotal election year, I have decided to share a few perspectives from a group of women who are in positions that either impact – or deal with the impact- of decisions and policies made in Oklahoma.

I hope you join the conversation.
